City walls (Piran)
City walls (Piran)
The city centre was probably already walled off by the 7th century. The walls later moved towards the southeast, and new quarters were continually established within the walls. The largest section of preserved walls was built in the 15th and 16th centuries and became part of the medieval city structure. Of special historical value are the remnants of the walls on the slope of Mogoron, which give Piran its now characteristic cityscape. Photo: © Jaka Ivančič
