On Saturday 5th October the arcades on the promenade by the sea between Piran and Portorož were buzzing as various members of associations that strive to preserve the rich cultural heritage of the past came together and presented their work. 

There were many participants: the association Anbot Piran and the Folklore association VAL Piran with “Small stories of our heritage”, the Italian community Giuseppe Tartini Piran, mandolin players “Serenate”, the group Saltmakers family with the massage that Piran was built on salt,  a group from Tartini’s time with their homage to the famous violinist Giuseppe Tartini and the association Rosa Klementina, which brings back to life the ways of rich tourists from 100 years ago with luxurious clothing. European cultural heritage days are organised by numerous European countries under the patronage of the Council of Europe and the European Commission. The theme of 2019 is heritage, art and entertainment. The purpose of the current theme is to portray the different aspects of cultural heritage, which are dedicated to art and free time. With art we can have enjoyable experiences and relax every single day. Moreover, art also gives us the opportunity to explore history, so this year’s main theme is cultural heritage, which today can be found in many forms of entertainment.

The photographs on display were captured so genuinely by the photographer Ubald Trnkoczy and they show Istrian culture and the traditions of our grandmothers.
