Wellness / The healing effects of sea water on the body

A fulfilling life, no issues with excessive weight, a great shape, a healthy diet, a smile on your face... many wish for these things. But on the path of personal change we often stop because our first step is already the wrong one. Before we can start again, we must leave the old behind. We need to detoxify of body and regenerate its cells in order to “re-awaken” and start building new foundations. There are many suggestions available about regeneration. One of the most ancient natural practices is the use of sea water and sea salt, as they have many beneficial effects.

Sea water as a natural medicine

The ancient Greek already knew the healing powers of the sea. They used sea water 2500 years ago to heal and treat eczema, arthritis, asthma and back pain. Hippocrates discovered that sea water helps heal wounds, prevents infections and eases pain.

Sea water is very similar to human blood: 

A small piece of the sea runs in our bloodstream, that same sea that started life. Maybe it’s because of this that human blood is salty. Sea salt has numerous healing macro and micro elements (iodine, calcium, magnesium, sodium, silicon etc.), minerals and catalysts which improve the function of metabolism and the efficiency of the hormone system. Moreover, sea water contains many biological stimulators, which activate the endocrine cells with internal secretion and stimulate the entire organism.

Reinforce the nervous system:

Imagine the feeling of swimming in the sea. You are relaxed, right? 

Sea water contains smaller amounts of bromine, which has a calming effect. There’s also magnesium, which stimulates the body to expel the water in excess.  The salt acts on skin receptors, as it stays in the upper skin layer (epidermis) up to three - four weeks after bathing in the sea. Thus the skin is nourished and relaxed long after a swim in the sea or in a swimming pool with sea water

Sea water:

  • detoxifies the body,
  • reinforces the immune system.

Sea water contains silicic acid which helps ease skin problems such as eczema and psoriasis. It has a great effect on anyone with rheumatism, arthritis, back or joints pain,contracted muscles. The minerals in it help reduce inflammations, as they help the liver, the skin and the kidneys to expel toxins from the body in a faster way. The negatively charged ions and particles of salt in sea air have a healing effect on the airways, the bronchi and lungs. Sea water contains iodine, which improves mental abilities, helps regulate hormones and allows the proper functioning of the thyroid gland.

ADVICE – How to detoxify the body?

Thanks to its many beneficial qualities, we recommend firstly to bathe in the sea or in a swimming pool with sea water and then proceed with the detoxification of the body.

In order to let the salt have the best effect on the body, we recommend visiting the sauna for approximately 10 min, so the skin can warm up and the pores can open. After that do a salt scrub, where you mix salt, Mediterranean herbs and virgin olive oil. The scrub will thoroughly cleanse the skin and prepare it for the detoxifying process. When you finish with the scrub, leave the salt on the skin and enter the sauna, where the heat and salt combined will start the detoxifying process. The salt binds water to itself and thus also the toxins and waste from the skin. With the whole “process” combining the sea/pool, sauna and scrub the whole body is detoxified.
