Helpful / How to get to the Slovenian coast?

In summer, we like to spend some free time also at sea. The planning of trips, relaxing weekends, vacation or visit of musical events on the Slovenian coast requests some coordination. If you cannot travel to Slovenian coast by the car or if you would like to avoid traffic jam you can choose other modern, safe and comfortable public transport options like train or bus.

Different travel agencies and public transport provider offer transfers to the Slovenian coast. Jung and elderly people often prefer to travel by bus or train; but also for families, traveling by train could be a nice experience and adventure. For younger population (and golden-ager) is comfortable to travel by train or bus to the coast to visit many summer concerts and events. This decision is very responsible, than travelling by train or bus is the safest, quickest and cheapest way to come to the destination and you can drink a glass or two of alcoholic drink without feeling a touch of guilt than you do not have to drive home.

On weekends take the beach train to Koper

If you would like to go to the beach on weekends, you can take during the summer season the so-called »beach train« from Maribor to Koper. It is an economic way to travel to Koper and from here you can take bus to Izola, Portorož or Piran. Avoid traffic jam and spend a relaxing weekend on the Slovenian coast. If you are asking yourself how long you would travel during the weekends or on holidays to the coast, we recommend you to prefer to travel rather by train to avoid worries and anxiety.

The train for Koper allows also the transport of bicycles. From Koper you will find many biking trails that will allow you to discover the beautiful Slovenian coast.

You can bring also pets on the train if they fulfill the basic legal conditions (vaccination, muzzle etc.).

The ticket for both ways is 30 % discounted on weekends; also for students and seniors the tickets are discounted. The price for the ticket from Maribor to Koper and back costs on weekends approximately 25 EUR.

By train to the sea

Travelling by train in summer you can reach Koper, Pula, Rijeka, Opatija and Split with:

  • summer train InterCity Slovenija from Maribor to Koper,
  • so-called »beach train« that operates in the summer season daily from Maribor to Koper and back,
  • direct line of the beach train from Maribor to Pula (and back in the same direction) that operates in the summer season also every day.
  • The two direct lines bring you in the summer also to Opatija and Rijeka. Unfortunately, there is no direct line to Split but in Zagreb you can take another train and go to Split. From Split you have many possibilities to travel by bus or boats to many other destinations and also to the islands.

By bus to the sea

If you don`t drive anymore, if you don`t have the driving license or if you would like to travel without worries you can travel also by bus to the sea.

Many modern, air conditioned, comfortable buses offer maximum comfort and other additional services like free internet; you can use your tablet or smart phone and the travel time will pass very quickly. The young population prefer travelling by bus since it is a carefree, secure and comfortable way of travelling. Travelling by bus is not so tiring as travelling by car, especially for the driver. Often it is also cheaper if you calculate the costs for fuel, toll and parking costs.
