In Slovenia, there are three wine-bearing regions: the Littoral, the Drava Valley and the Sava Valley.
Their natural conditions significantly impact the sensory characteristics of wine. As a result, typical grape varieties are different among the three wine-bearing regions of Slovenia.
Select wines from the three of Slovenia's wine-bearing regions with 14 districts are ranked among the top in the world in terms of quality. Each wine-bearing region boasts its own selection of varieties as a result of the differences in growing sites, the climate and cellaring. Slovene vineyards are located in the centre of the European wine belt. These ideal vineyard locations of the Slovenian wine-bearing regions are not unlike regions such as Burgundy in France, while the interplay of the climate and soil in Slovenia provides for the increasing variety in the assortment of wines.
