Bled - home to the most beautiful cycling routes

Cycling along the trail of local stories

The thematic routes are a bit more relaxed, as they allow you to stop during the route and leisurely explore all the beauty and sights the route has to offer. We have prepared three special thematic routes for you, which are also suitable for beginners and children, who are experiencing their first cycling trips.

  • Along the trails of cultural heritage

The two-hour long trip will take you through beautiful landscapes and Alpine villages, many of which are the birthplaces of some of the most famous Slovenians. From Bled, you will set off over the Sava Dolinka river and climb to the villages under mount Stol, enjoying the sight of the Karavanke mountains and Julian Alps. The route will lead you past Begunje, the birthplace of the famous Avsenik brothers, past the museum of Elan ski equipment, all the way to the picturesque town of Radovljica, with its charming old town centre.

  • Beekeeping tour

The guided thematic e-bike trip will take you from Bled to the surrounding villages, where you will learn about the rich cultural heritage of beekeeping, discovering their offer of honey products and various forms of beekeeping tourism.

  • Discovering Lake Bled on a family trip

Enjoy an easy, mostly flat path along the lake, perfectly suitable for families. The tour leads you through the surrounding villages and along the famous Bled lake, where you will admire the view of Bled Island, the castle and the Karavanke mountains. On the way, don't forget to listen for the famous Bled Island wishing bell as it echoes over the lake surface, and treat yourself to a slice of cream cake in one of Bled's pastry shops.

Explore the best views by bike

The most beautiful views are definitely found on the mountaintops. Less experienced cyclists can take on this adventure with an electric bike. Three demanding, but rewarding destinations that are very famous for their breathtaking views, will amaze you by showcasing Bled's amazing natural features.
  • Triglav National Park

A cycling tour through Slovenia's only national park, where you will discover the beautiful valleys of the Julian Alps. The circular route, starting in Bled, takes you through the villages of Spodnje Gorje, Zgornje Gorje and the valley of the Radovna river. Further on in the Krma glacial valley, you will be able to enjoy views of the imposing northern Alpine mountain walls. The route takes you to the village of Mojstrana, where you can visit the Alpine museum, and then all the way to Jesenice. The return trip will lead you through the villages of Kočna, Spodnje Gorje and the Vintgar gorge.

  • The Karavanke panorama

The cycling route to the Karavanke mountains is partly the same as the Transkaravanke multi-day tour. First, we ride past the birthplace of Slovenia's most famous poet, France Prešeren, and the apiary of famous beekeeper, Anton Janša. This is followed by a climb to the Valvasorjev dom mountain cabin, and further across the Žirovniška planina and Zabreška planina with the most beautiful views far and wide. What follows is a long descent to Žirovnica, through Zabreznica, Vrba, and then back to Bled.

  • The Radovna Valley

The cycling route takes us through the valley named after the Alpine river Radovna, which stretches between the plateaus of Pokljuka and Mežakla. At every turn, the landscape boasts impressive historical monuments and natural attractions, which are much easier to access by e-bike.

Discovering Gorenjska by bike on a long-distance route

The long-distance cycling route of Rateče - Mojstrana will take you past all the beauty of the Gorenjska region. The route surface is tarmac throughout, and separated from motor traffic, running along an abandoned railway line. It winds through Kranjska Gora, where along the way you will discover the natural and cultural heritage of the region, as well as other interesting tourist spots. On the way, we also cross the national border, through the Rateče border crossing through to the Belopeška Jezera lakes or to Tarvisio. An excellent choice for a longer but well-maintained route.
