Herbal sauna
A herbal sauna combines a Finnish sauna with the benefits of medicinal herbs. The air in the herbal sauna is enriched with essential oil vapours evaporating from the herbs used. A mix of 12 herbs is used. The air temperature is 75 °C (167 °F) and the maximum relative humidity is between 15 and 30%. Surrender yourself to enjoyment and the action of essential oils on your body. They sooth the respiratory system and the skin, as well as providing a great deal of comfort to boost your health. The essential oils that we use at the Radenci health resort are all natural (eucalyptus, peppermint, lemon, orange blossom, balm-mint, fir needles and rosemary). Rosemary and eucalyptus have a stimulating effect, while lemon, orange blossoms and balm-mint are there to relax you. Listen to yourself and follow your feelings and emotions. It is important to enter the sauna relaxed, to forget about your everyday worries and responsibilities. A Finnish saying states that, “if … a sauna is no help, the disease is fatal”.
Finnish sauna
The word sauna originates from distant Finland and simultaneously means the heating of the body in a wooden space with dry hot air and cooling it with external cold air, cold water or snow. Together, these two effects make up a true sauna and cause its soothing and healing effects. What is characteristic of the sauna is the high air temperature and a maximum relative air humidity of between 10 and 15%. The dry air boosts perspiration. The perspiration on the surface of the skin evaporates and cools the skin. In this way, the body protects itself from overheating. Increased perspiration also helps the body to detoxify. Sudden temperature changes from high to very low increase the body’s immune capacity, while the body also becomes accustomed to everyday stress originating from the environment. Regular visits to the sauna invigorate and strengthen the body. A sauna in winter or on strenuous days will make you relax and forget all your burdens. There are two Finnish saunas for you to choose from. A sauna with a temperature of 90 °C (194 °F) with the usual throwing of water on hot stones and a Finnish sauna with a slightly lower air temperature of 65 °C (149 °F) where you don’t need to throw water as the moisture and fragrances (balm-mint, lemon, Indian Rose, etc.) are added automatically.
Infrared sauna
Infrared light is a form of energy that heats objects directly without heating the surrounding air. The infrared heat that is used in such a sauna is the same as that emitted by your body and the same as the heat of the sun without the harmful ultraviolet light. The occurrence of infrared energy is a type of reaction that promotes health. There are reports of the positive effects of infrared saunas on back pains and rheumatism, relieving problems caused by the menopause, helping with insomnia and reducing excess body weight and cellulite, as well as its benefits for skin care as perspiration helps secrete toxins that the body deposits in the hypodermis. Skin that is well suffused with blood looks attractive and youthful. This type of sauna is especially recommended for those who do not cope well with the high temperatures in a Finnish sauna. Infrared rays penetrate up to 4cm deep into the body tissue at a much lower temperature and the body is believed to secrete twice as much perspiration as in a Finnish sauna. Heating with infrared heat boosts the metabolic processes, accelerates them and limits the growth of bacteria and viruses. It further stimulates the activity of the internal organs. The body’s defence capability is improved. The body is thoroughly cleansed and rejuvenated.
Turkish sauna
Our new Turkish sauna is adorned with a marvellous starry sky where the air temperature is 45 °C (113 °F) and the relative humidity is 100%. Fragrances are added automatically. The air is so saturated with humidity that water droplets form a mist. A steam bath will also make us perspire – not through the evaporation of perspiration from the skin but through the body becoming overheated in this type of sauna similarly as in the Finnish sauna. Steam is especially beneficial and healthy for those with respiratory problems and rheumatism. Those who know what it means to have beautiful skin will appreciate the cosmetic effects of a steam bath. Steam further promotes blood circulation in addition to cleansing and rejuvenating the skin.
Tilarium
A tilarium is a type of sauna that has developed from the Finnish sauna and offers a pleasant form of perspiration. If you find the air in a classic Finnish sauna too dry or too hot, then your body needs the Tilarium - a sauna where there is no throwing of water on hot stones. The temperature is about 65 °C (149 °F) and the relative humidity is about 50%. It provides an ideal climate for relaxing and letting your mind wonder. You will, of course, perspire in the Tilarium as in a classic Finnish sauna, but in a more indulgent and attractive way.
Amidst the colour-coordinated ambiance of the saunas, there is a resting chamber containing a star-strewn sky with a waterfall, whirlpool, Kneipp pool and heated benches for resting.
